The 100 Mile May challenge began in 2018 with a group of friends trying to run 100 miles in an attempt to achieve our last-minute fitness goal prior to summer. What we never could have imagined at the time was that this fitness contest ultimately evolved into an opportunity to act as a fundraiser and month-long memorial event for our dear friend Eric Witunski who passed in October of 2018.
We officially converted the 100 Mile May challenge into a fundraising event in 2020. In a time of uncertainty for many of us during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic, we were able to gather 33 people and raised $4,000 in Eric’s name. This was the start of a tradition that will continue for many years to come. Last year we raised over $20,000! This year we had a record number of participants (558) with nearly 200 runners reaching 100 mile mark!!
Please kindly donate through the form on this page. Once all contributions are collected, the 100 Mile May team will distribute all funds raised to the following organizations:
-
A number of Massachusetts based community programs in Memory of Eric Witunski (Team Eric). The programs include Neighbor Brigade, A Place to Turn, Project Just Because , Student Scholarship Funds at Holliston High School, and many more. For a full list of partnering programs, please visit https://www.100milemay.com/.
-
Dana Farber Cancer Institute- In memory of Oliver Baublis (Team Ollie)
In previous years, the rules of the competition were to donate $1 for every mile you run and $2 for every mile you come short of 100. This year we are removing any donation requirement and encourage participants to donate what they can.
Thank you all for another great year of 100 Mile May!
REQUEST DONATION RECEIPT
Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code empowers Nonprofit organizations to accept donations that donors can claim as tax-deductible. Yet, the process of review by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for 100 Mile May to be recognized as a 501(c)(3) charity is currently pending and may take several months. Fortunately, all donations can be recognized as tax-deductible donations while the registration is pending. Since we are collecting money via Venmo, after placing a donation please fill out this form to receive a formal receipt. Note that this process may take a few days.
